Mike Portnoy

Michael Stephen Portnoy is an American drummer first and foremost known as the ace drummer and backing vocalist for the prominent metal band Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy aka Michael Portnoy was born on April 20, 1967, and has won about 23 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine. Mike primarily was known for his drumming expertise and methodological skills. Apart from being an ace drummer, mike also has co-produced previous five Dream Theater albums starting from starting from Metropolis Pt. 2 to Scenes from a Memory with, guitarist John Petrucci.

From ‘A Change of Seasons’, Portnoy has been lettering a considerable amount of Dream Theater’s lyrics, filling the emptiness left by Kevin Moore. Kevin left the band after the release of ‘Awake’. At 37 years of age Mike was inducted into the Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame, and became the second youngest individual after Neil Peart to be inducted.

It’s said that Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy will playing drums for the guys in A7X’s forthcoming album. Ace drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who passed in late December, was an enormous fan and significantly influenced by Portnoy.

In response to this, the band declared: “It’s soothing to us that somebody like Mike, who is indisputably venerated as one of the finest drummers in the world, held such esteem and love for the Rev’s abilities.”
